I have been making my own body wash and hand soap for quite a long time. At the beginning, it began as a way to find something gentle for my hands. Several years ago, I suffered from quite severe eczema on the palm of my right hand. I had a lot of inflammation, weeping blisters, and so on. Everything perfumed or alcohol based made it flare up even more severely. So, I decided to try to make something myself. We use this recipe for both body wash (myself and the kids) and hand soap. The coolest part is that it is very inexpensive to make once you have the ingredients and so very gentle on the skin. The following recipe is adapted from this one.
What you need:
- A bottle with a pump top. (glass is recommended when using essentials oils, but I am still using plastic at this point)
- 1/2 cup of Unscented Castile Soap (Amazon or your Health food store)
- 4 TBS Vegetable Glycerin (Amazon or your Health Food Store
- 3 TBS Olive Oil
- 10 drops of your favorite essential oil
Combine ingredients in your bottle. *Note-The oil will separate from the other ingredients. I just give it a shake before using it. The good news is that even if no one shakes it-it will still work just fine.
